  • Best Picture:

    Who will win: The Artist

    Who should win: Hugo

Who I want to win: Midnight in Paris

    Should have been nominated:

Beginners: Dramedies rarely get nominated, especially ones with summer release dates. But I’m glad that Christopher Plummer is basically guaranteed to win an Oscar for his performance.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: My favorite book. One of my favorite directors. Prime release date. There is no reason this shouldn’t have been nominated.

Shame: Undoubtedly the film is heavy, but subject matter shouldn’t prevent something from being nominated—especially when the film is so flawless and effecting.

Drive: Once again, it was probably released slightly too early. Otherwise this should have been a prime candidate.

50/50: Another dramedy that was exceedingly original and well done, that the academy refused to acknowledge.

Bridesmaids: The academy tends to overlook good comedies, but the fact that Melissa McCarthy was nominated is a big step forward—although she has no chance of winning.

Melancholia: Sure, its out there, but if The Tree of Life can get nominated, so can this. Lars Von Trier is the man.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: Some claim it was difficult to follow, but I think it was meticulously crafted with exceptional acting.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Seriously though… none of these movies everrrr got nominated. What the fuck.

I don’t think Like Crazy deserves a nod, but it was right up my alley.

    Actor in a Leading Role:

Who will win: Jean Dujardin, The Artist

Who should win: George Clooney, The Descendants

Who I want to win: George Clooney, The Descendants

    Should have been nominated:

Michael Fassbender, Shame: Not only should he have been nominated, but he should have won. Such a haunting performance.

Asa Butterfield, Hugo: This kid has such a huge future and this movie revolved around his performance.

Peyman Maadi, A Seperation: He really had no chance, considering this was a foreign film, but at least A Seperation will most likely win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

Ryan Gosling, Drive: This film got completely snubbed, whiiiich is bullshit.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 50/50:  With only five spots, it is unlikely he would have been nominated, but his performance was moving and hilarious. Equally.

Ewan McGregor, Beginners: Definitely not the best or most challenging performance of the year, but I’m just throwin it out there.

Best Actress In a Leading Role:

Who will win: Viola Davis, The Help

Who should win: Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady

Who I want to win: Meryl Streep, The Iron Lady

    Should have been nominated:

Kirsten Dunst, Melancholia: She definitely should have taken the place of Michelle Williams or Glenn Close, although her character was hard to watch.

Kristen Wiig, Bridesmaids: If Melissa McCarthy got nominated, Wiig deserves a nod too.

    Actor in a Supporting Role:

Who will win: Christopher Plummer, Beginners

Who should win: Christopher Plummer, Beginners

Who I want to win: Christopher Plummer, Beginners

    Should have been nominated:

Adrien Brody, Midnight in Paris: No explanation needed

Corey Stoll, Midnight in Paris: I think it was more the interpretation of Hemingway that Allen wrote, but Stoll’s delivery was flawless.

    Actress in a Supporting Role:

Who will win: Octavia Spencer, The Help

Who should win: Octavia Spencer, The Help

Who I want to win: Octavia Spencer, The Help

    Should have been nominated:

Carey Mulligan, Shame: Again, this film was completely snubbed by that Academy, and I’d even argue her performance is on the same level as Spencer’s .

Jessica Chastain, The Tree of Life: I know she was already nominated, but she was the best in this film.

Shailene Woodley, The Descendants: Everyone thought she would be nominated. She wasn’t. It is a travesty.

Bryce Dallas Howard, The Help: Just because she was a villain, doesn’t mean she should have been ignored.

    Cinematography:

Who will win: Emmanuel Lubezki, The Tree of Life

Who should win: Emmanuel Lubezki, The Tree of Life

Who I want to win: Emmanuel Lubezki, The Tree of Life

Tom Brown, Zsuzsa Kismarty-Lechner, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: 1970s Britain coming to life.

David Crank, The Tree of Life: I think this would have been nominated if there was one more spot.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (There are nine million people responsible for this): All of Fincher’s movies have great art direction.

    Directing:

Who will win: Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist

Who I want to win: Martin Scorsese, Hugo

    Should have been nominated:

David Fincher, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo: Basssically my favorite director, bringing my favorite book to life.

Mike Mills, Beginners: Such a creative and original and moving dramedy. Mike Mills is a genius.

Steve McQueen, Shame: Its about time he gets some recognition for being a fucking GENIUS

Lars Von Trier, Melancholia: cinematic master, even if he’s a horrible human being

    Film Editing:

Who will win: Anne-Sophie Bion and Michel Hazanavicius, The Artist

Who should win: Thelma Schoonmaker, Hugo

Who I want to win: Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

    Should have been nominated:

Alisa Lepselter, Midnight in Paris: Understandably this didn’t get nominated with only five spots, but it should get recognition.

    Makeup:

Steven Zaillian, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo: Not the best adaptation of all time, but better than the Swedish version in my opinion.

    Writing (Original Screenplay)

Who will win: Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris
